Vikings Brno are the newly crowned champions of Europe in the women’s EMF Champions League, after a dramatic penalty shootout victory against neighbours Baraberky Bratislava after the game finished 0-0 in regulation time.
We had teams from Italy, Romania, Slovakia and Czechia as well as the host country Spain in the tournament, and we had some exciting match ups as the women’s Minifootball game continues to go from strength to strength.
When we got to the knockouts and the nerves really started to kick in, it was bad news for the Spanish as their teams lost both their play off matches.
Firstly, Logse Women Oviedo lost on penalties 2-0 to Forcoli Valdera from Italy, and then CD Roquetenc were no match for their Romanian counterparts, Asociatia De Minifotbal Neamt, as they lost 3-1 in the only play off match that didn’t require penalty kicks to find a winner.
Then it was onto the big one, the EMF Women’s Champions League final and it was tipped to be a cracker between two very closely matched teams, and it certainly turned out to be a tight affair as neither team could break the deadlock inside 40 minutes!
So it was back to spot kicks again, and after some clinical finishing, someone had to lose and someone had to be crowned champions, and Vikings Brno were the ones to hold their nerve and walk away with their first ever European title in Minifootball.
Congratulations to the Czechs, a fully deserved victory, for the rest of the teams, they’ll be back in 2027 to try again, but for now, the best team in Europe are Vikings Brno!!!
