The world’s two fastest men, Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, showed their skills in another sport last week, when they turned up for a game of Minifootball on their local Astroturf pitch!
Bolt and Blake, who were amongst the stars of London 2012, were training at Uxbridge University with their compatriots Warren Weir – a bronze medalist in the 200 meters -and Jamaican legend Asafa Powell, when they noticed staff at the community Minifootball league setting up.
League Manager Sarah Gooding takes up the story: “Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake walked up to our members of staff on site and asked if anyone could play. To say we were amazed would be an understatement.
“We said they would be more than welcome and Usain, Yohan, Warren, Asafa and all their coaches joined up with one of the teams to show what they could do! Our players’ jaws hit the floor! They played for a team called The Underdogs, who lost the match….
“Its not every day that some of the world’s best athletes – including the worlds most famous sportsman – play minifootball with star struck strangers,” Sarah said.
She was also full of praise for the quartet and added: “They were really first class, staying to chat and pose for pictures with everyone.”
Bolt has recently announced he wants a trial at Manchester United but Sarah wouldn’t be drawn on whether he had the skills to make it at the top level despite a man of the match showing: “It’s hard to say,” she conceded. “There is no doubt he can play, certainly his pace would be an asset!”
The sprint legends were playing in Minifootball League in Uxbridge.
Please note: Sprint legends are NOT guaranteed every week…
