The third day of the tournament started Tuesday morning under a cloudless, sunny sky. The first match of the day saw Poland and Italy return to action.
Poland were in front after only 4 minutes when Bartlomiej Debicki scored, before Italy struck back in the 14th minute. But Poland were ahead at half time again thanks to Debicki’s second goal.
He continued the scoring in the second half as well with an amazing double, quickly making it 4:1. With 2 minutes to go Poland was leading 6:2, and easily kept the 4-goal lead during the final minutes of the game.
The day continued with the other two teams of Group C facing each other, Russia and Estonia. Both sides struggled to forge opportunities in a fairly drab first half, but Russia still managed to find the first goal in the 18th minute.
The Estonian reply came in the 25th minute, making it 1:1. Within minutes Sergey Faustov handed the lead back to Russia. Two consecutive goals from Russia in the last two minutes of the match granted them a 4:1 final win.
Tomorrow at 5 p.m. Russia will face Poland in a top-of-the-group clash to determine which team will proceed as the winner of Group C.
Slovenia and Serbia of Group A met next on the field. An early goal, in the 9th minute, gave Serbia a better start to the game. However, Slovenia managed to change the course of the game as they stunned Serbia with four consecutive goals in the last 10 minutes of the match, making it 4:1.
Serbia will meet Hungary, tomorrow, in the last round and desperately need a win against the hosts to secure a place in the last 16.
