As the day was getting closer to an end, the reigning champion Romania took the field at Székesfehérvár and defeated France 3:1 to win their first game of the EURO.
France’s Elie Dohin stunned Romania and the whole arena when scoring the opener barely 3 minutes after the kick off. However, France couldn’t enjoy the lead for long. Only 6 minutes later Bogdan Andrei Chiper levelled it up for Romania (1:1).
The reigning champions showed huge improvement in the second half, and France quickly learnt what their opponent is truly capable of. Radu Marian Burciu’s brace handed Romania a comfortable two-goal lead (3:1) with 10 minutes left on the clock, and eventually proved to be enough to secure three points for his team.
Spain were up against Lithuania next. Spain lived up to the expectations, securing a two-goal lead after 11 minutes. With the half time approaching the players of Lithuania pushed harder and, two minutes before the break, their ball found a way past Gabriel Ros.
Both teams fought hard at the beginning of the second half, but neither was able to find the net before the 27th minute when Spain netted one last goal to seal the 3:1 victory.
The last game of the day and the first round of the EURO tournament was Germany against Israel. The game’s first goal came seconds after the kick off when Alex Stunis’s ball hit the back of the German net. The German equaliser (1:1) came in the 12th minute, thanks to Dominic Reinold, which also turned out to be the last goal before the break.
Israel proved just how serious they were about stealing important points from Germany when Sharon Adani scored in the 26th minute. Dominic Reinold came to the rescue again netting another equaliser in the 33rd minute, before Tigil Yaglioglu helped Germany take the lead for the first time in the match, and secured a 3:2 victory.
