The man who refereed the game of minifootball that saw Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Warren Weir swap sports has spoken of his “shock” when the sprint legends asked to play.
Chris Hope, one of UKMA’s referees in Uxbridge, Middlesex admitted he could barely believe his eyes last week when the double Olympic Champion Bolt, asked if he could join in the match.
“I was standing watching the match before the one I was due to referee and someone came up behind me and said ‘can we play too?’ I recognised the voice, but I could barely believe my eyes. It was Usain Bolt and he was there with Blake and Weir as well as one of their coaches.
“To be honest, I was just shocked. It isn’t every day you get the world’s most famous sportsman asking to play football with you!”
