With the UK enjoying the London 2012 Olympics and Team GB picking up its best medal haul for generations, you might have expected minifootball to take a break for the games.
The reality, though, has been anything but as the last fortnight has seen a proliferation of UK Minifootball Leagues starting up.
While people have been glued to their TV’s up and down the and watching the likes Jess Ennis, Mo Farrah and Sir Chris Hoy pick up gold medals, UK Minifootball’s affiliates have been busy starting up leagues as Philip Stevens explains: “The summer is not a fantastic time for us usually to start up leagues as people are away on holiday. This year we were even more concerned because of the Olympics, which we thought might take focus away from any other sport.
“However, we are absolutely thrilled to say that this hasn’t been the case. In the last few weeks we have seen new leagues begin in Macclesfield, Glasgow and Manchester. We have one starting in Farnborough next week and we are close to starting in Doncaster and expanding in Birmingham. It really is superb!”
Away from minifootball, Philip also took the time to salute Team GB’s Olympic heroes, saying. “I have enjoyed the games immensely. And the athletes have been a credit to the whole country. “
