Soccer Association’s oldest Referee hit his 72nd birthday this week, but has no plans to hang up his whistle.
Trevor Page, who has been reffing in Association Soccer Leagues for over 20 years, takes charge on three nights a week and vowed to carry on for as long as he possibly could.
“It keeps me fit,” he said. “I love being with the younger people. I would love to still be playing, but this is the next best thing. As long as I feel able to do it and I can keep up with play, then I will keep going. I might think about hanging my boots up when I am 80, but hopefully not before!”
Trevor is a popular figure in his leagues, where he is famous for his easy-going manner and sense of humour, and one of the team captains, Roger Bardell, led the praise for the ref.
“Trevor is a fantastic guy,” he smiled. “And more than that, he is a fine referee Always up with play and always giving fair decisions – everyone wishes him many more years reffing yet!”
