Richard Butler, the referee who was chosen to officiate the final of the UK 6 a side championship has spoken of his “pride” at being chosen to do the prestigious game.
Richard, who is based in Shropshire, and has reffed for UKMA for over a decade. He has long been regarded as one of the best and most respected referees in UK minifootball and admitted he was honoured to be chosen to referee the final.
“When UKMA told me I was going to do the final I was so proud,” beamed Richard. “I have been at the other National tournaments and have always dreamed that one day, I would be chosen. I think the final went well so I ended up being quite pleased.”
The UK 6 a side Championships organiser Lee Ford said that Richard was a worthy choice. “He is a fine official, and is always able to gain respect with his calm and friendly manner. Teams were complimentary of his display in the final, but we never expected anything less.”
