The United Kingdom minifootball family will welcome two new leagues in the next seven days, as a pair of competitions begin the County of Yorkshire.
UKMA staff will be busy on Monday, with some overseeing the start of a 24 team league in the massive city of Sheffield in the south of the area, while others will be in North Yorkshire, as the historic Roman Town of York sees its first ever UKMA affiliated league kick off.
UKMA’s Brian Thorn admitted he was pleased with the new divisions and said: “The fact we have been able to welcome around 300 new players to our fine sport is a great thrill. Both York and Sheffield have been starved a little of minifootball over the years, which is perhaps the leagues are proving so popular now.”
Brian also added that the UK Minifootball Association planned to start more leagues in the area, having actively targeted the area throughout 2012: “We looked at areas to grow minifootball in and Yorkshire was one place that stuck out. This year we have added over 1500 players in the County – we are far from finished, though, and we are already looking at further pitches to use in 2013.”
