It is that minifootball is the most popular sport for amateurs in the world and of course it is 100% true. It is also true that the countries that love football, are the countries which love minifootball too and when a country has some special reasons that make football more and more popular, then it is always true that minifootball becomes popular too, because these 2 sports are very closely connected. The spectators who watch their team playing for the national championship or for UEFA Champions League or Europa League, start to want to play themselves and the only way to do it on an organized level, is through minifootball… Actually, minifootball is the only way to move from the couch and the TV and play with the others, it is the only way to “become a star” and not just to “admire the stars”!
This is what’s happening in Cyprus during the last years… Although Cyprus is one of the smallest European countries, people really love football and their teams have started playing on the highest European level since the last decade. We can all remember Anorthosis FC in Champion League 4 years ago and of course we can all remember what APOEL FC did last year in Champions League, where APOEL won Port, Shakhtar FC and reached just one step before semi-finals …
It was something amazing for the Cypriots and during this year we can all see AEL FC in Champions League and Omonoia FC and APOEL in Europa League. They are all very strong teams. The Cypriots are really crazy about football. They love it, they promote it in every possible way, they support their teams and they live it. This is what is happening with minifootball too. Minifootball clubs exist all over the island and all the big and small cities have some very good minifootball facilities. Nescafe UNI-League, the national championship that represents Cypriot minifootball in the EMF becomes bigger and bigger year by the year. Cypriots breathe for this sport and when something like that happens in a country, this country always is an important link in the chain of European minifootball.
The next important challenge for the Cypriot minifootball is the participation of the national team in miniEURO MOLDOVA 2012 and the expectations that they have are unbelievably high.
