Ireland Minifootball skipper Conor Buckley says that the team are heading to miniEURO2014 with one aim in mind: To win the competition.

Speaking exclusively to the Irish Minifootball Association Conor, who led his country in the 2013 event, said: “Our aim is simple, we want to win the tournament. We don’t want to just make up the numbers.”

The team competed at international level for the first time in 2013, losing all three games but playing with distinction, but Buckley admitted he wasn’t entertaining ideas of glorious failure this time around: “We were bitterly disappointed with the results,” he confirmed: “We improved after every game but you need to learn fast over there. The heat and the way team’s played the game was very different to what we were used to. We will improve next time!”

Since their return to Ireland the team have been undergoing training sessions each Friday and these have been beneficial according to the skipper: “Training has been brilliant. Everyone is really enjoying it. The squad has improved greatly. There is massive competition this year and everyone is fighting for their place. We have new top class physio’s and strength and conditioning coaches. The new indoor training facility in Santry is excellent too.”
