With five continental titles in the trophy window, the Romania National Team is looking forward to miniEURO 2015.
However, once there, the Head Coach will face a very difficult mission. All the teams in Europe have surely improved since 2014, meaning that the entire champions must go up a level.
This is one of the reasons why the Romanian Minifootball Federation chose to change the way the National Cup (26th – 28th June) and National Championship (3rd – 5th July) will be played.
The first one will be held, simultaneously, in three cities, Roman, Piatra Neamt and Pascani, and will gather 64 teams from all across the country, which will consist in an all-time record.
One of them will be Consiliul Judetean Buzau, which held this title for the last two years and is hoping for their third. The most important club competition in Romania, the National Championship, will take place in Arad, and the best 16 teams in the country will fight for the supreme title. The number is not exceptionally high because all of them had to – or will – attend one of the four Regional Championships across Romania, each of them with 16 starting teams.
Because of this new system, some of the local championships were allowed to send two teams to this competition, the champions and the runners-up. With three Regional Championships already played and one to go, we could see that, so far, there are four cities/counties that will send two teams each to Arad: Sibiu, Zalau, Bistrita and Bucharest.
Another interesting fact is that the teams that finished on the 1st, 3rd and 4th place in the 2014 National Championship did not made it through the Regional Championship, so we will just have to see if the 2nd place, which has not yet performed, will. So, an impressive number of 128 teams from all over the country which will attend national competitions this year will surely give the head coach of the national team a very difficult, but pleasant mission: to pick his favorites for Vrsar, in September, so that Romania can fight for another title!
