The sleepy midlands town of Warwick was once famous for little more than its popular medieval castle – one of the UK’s most popular tourist attractions.
However all that is set to change as next week as yet another minfootball league kicks off.
The success of minifootball in the area has come as something of a shock even to UK Minifootball themselves as spokesman Brian Thorn explains. “There was an affiliated league in the area with eight teams playing and enjoying the games,” he said. “To be totally honest, we thought that might be the best we could do. But then things just grew and grew!”
Those eight teams have – within the space of a year – become 32 but things didn’t just end there. There were so many teams clamoring to join that the organisers, who are one of UK Minifootball’s biggest affiliates, have had to hastily convene an extra night.
Brian Thorn continues the story: “They put the Monday night league on the website and within days 24 teams had signed up!”
Mr. Thorn puts the success down to what he termed “the perfect situation” in the area. “The facilities are fantastic, the league is well run, and the teams just really enjoy the evenings. We commend everyone involved in this fine product.”
