The Minifootball Champions League Takes Place In Vilnius

On the 6th June, the Vilnius’ football Fan’s Stadium played host to the Lithuanian MiniFootball Association together with the MiniFootball League organized Champions League final in Vilnius, tournament. It was attended by 12 teams, which represented some of this year’s UEFA Champions League quarter final teams.

The groups were drawn and it was revealed that competing in Group “A” were Real Madrid, Arsenal, Atlético Madrid , FC Barcelona,  Bayern Munchen and Shaktar Donetsk.

Group “B” teams were Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Paris  Saint – Germain , Manchester City , FC Porto and AS Monaco.

The teams would be whittled down from 12 to eight. Grop A was  won by “Barcelona.” The team was made up of “Barca’s” fans on “Facebook”.

In Group “B” Juventus represented by “Švaros broliai”. Triumphed. So it was a real possibility that these teams would fight at the final – as they had in the UCL final in Germany.  However, Arsenal defeated “Juve ” in quarterfinals, so mini the event, unfortunately, did not replicate the UEFA competition.

After the semi-finals, in the finals FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich met. These two teams have met in the Champions League semi-final, which many had regarded as the real-final.

Finalists waited another surprise prepared by the organizers, both teams played with special special shirts, donated by Nissan, who this event’s and Champions League’s sponsor.

Finals won by the Bayern Munchen team that represented “El Dorado” team. They defeated “Barca” result 2:1. The third place went to Real Madrid (Eagles Team) team, and the fourth for Arsenal (SK Dūkštos).

The winning team was awarded an impressive trophy and first place medals. Also, of the winning  team’s players received invitations to one of Vilnius Žalgiris football team matches and the overall workout with the selection of the Champions League players from the 11 a side game.

The awards did not end, the best tournament player Darius Pupliauskas winning the right to spend the weekend at the Nissan Pulsar car’s steering wheel.

Barca and Real Madrid also received the second and third place medals.

During the event was dominated the festive mood, always sounded teams anthem. Event organizers, judges and volunteers were identified by a sponsor’s “Heineken” white shirt, and participants after the matches refreshed themselves with a cold “Heineken” beer. Also part of the teams stayed to watch the real Champions League final in the restaurant “Barcelona”, where triumphed the Catalan team.

That was just the beginning. Minifootball in Lithuania is constantly increasing the number of teams and players, but most of all is that you play!
