The beginning of minifootball on recreational level in Slovenia dates back to the 60ties. The league competition started in 1967 as a workers union championship of Ljubljana. The first competition manager at that time was Lojze Spetic. At first the matches were held in various courts around Ljubljana and the league was divided into two groups, group A and group B, while eight teams were playing in each. The league standings, results and from time to time even comments of matches were published in the press and documented, but unfortunately have not been archived systematically.
At the beginning of the season 1974/1975 the Committee for Sport Recreation of Basic Physical Culture Community Ljubljana Moste Polje issued the formal principles and laws of the game for the recreational minifootball league. Registered active players thereby lost the right to participate in the recreational league. The new rules required that all the teams have to have their own ball and that the players have to wear trainers and sports jerseys, for which there was no requirement that the jerseys were the same colors. The new rules also set out the dimensions of the playing surface, which now was fixed at the size of 40 x 20 meters. Pursuant to the new laws each team has had one goalkeeper and five players with unlimited number of substitutions during the match. The matches were played in two periods of 30 minutes each.
Already in the sixties and seventies in addition to the league on recreational level, various competitions and tournaments around Ljubljana were also held and many of the recreational/amateur minifootball players then are now occupying important positions in community alongside economic and political spheres in Slovenia. Warmest regards from Slovenia to minifootball players and supporters all around the globe.
