Gary Chamberlain claimed his first ever player-of-the-season award and immediately declared that the prize “meant so much.”
The all-action midfield player has been playing the Olde Griffin team in March, Cambridgeshire for years, but had never previously received the accolade as the season’s best player – which in UK Minfootball leagues is given to the person that is picked by the referee as Man of the Match on most times throughout the season.
Gary has received the man-of-the-match award on seven occasions in his team’s 18 games, meaning he beat his nearest rival by two points. He admitted that the thought of winning the prize had driven him on: “I have been desperate to be named player-of-the season for so long. I have been close in the last two years, but never quite managed to get over the line and be the top man. I knew if I kept playing well I would get there eventually.
“It feels great to have done it – and it really does mean so much to me!”
