Footballers who have registered for a brand new minifootball league which kicks off next week will have a special treat to celebrate opening night.
The competition begins next Monday at Portchester Community College in Portsmouth and former Portsmouth defender Linvoy Primus is going to be there to greet the teams.
Primus played almost 200 games for the town’s 11 a side football team and is seen as a real club legend – even having a stand named after him at Portsmouth’s Fratton Park ground.
UKMA’s Brian Thorn is delighted that the league is starting up and added: “Having someone of the stature of Linvoy there with the teams on opening night is only going to help things. “
Primus is renowned for his charity and community work and Brian thinks this is what might have attracted him to the idea of minifootball: “I am sure that is the case,” he said. “What we do is very much give the community a way to access football, and I am sure that fits in well with his ethos.”
