The Greek National Team is going to present many changes this year in comparison to the previous 2 seasons. Many new players were added and the coach Apostolis Gkaifyllias is trying to pass his tactics to his players from the beginning and build a new team.
It is true that there is a lot of talent and passion because all the new players want to prove that they deserve to be trusted by their coach. The first period of trainings finishes on Wednesday July 22nd and after 9 days of trainings the coach seems to be satisfied by their progress. Of course, the second period of trainings in September will be very important too, especially for a new team that needs time in order to start showing the results on the pitch.
In the Media Day of the National Team, the coach was very clear on camera: “I chose the players and I trust them a lot. When we play at the Final Phase of the European Championship, it is reasonable that the first goal is to achieve something better than last year. So, if we qualify to the quarterfinals this can be considered as the minimum goal for 2015.”
Apostolis Gkaifyllias also spoke about his personal way of working and he did not try to keep any secrets: “This is my third year in the National Team. For the coaches, it is always very important to scout how other teams work and what they do on the pitch. And of course this happens even more when we speak about successful teams like Romania for example. We have our own style in our game, and this is our identity but at the same time, it is important to be open-minded and sometimes even use or copy systems or ideas of other coaches. And the more you work, the more you improve also as a coach, you increase your knowledge and you implement it in the style of palying of your team.”
