The chance to emulate the Premier League title winners is proving a massive lure to the minifootballer’s of Manchester as a second league started in the space of a month.
The Monday night league in East Didsbury in South Manchester is in addition to the Tuesday evening competition which started in September.
The unprecedented subscription to the league might originally seem strange, but according to UK Minifootball Association’s Director Of Communications, Philip Stephens, is all to do with them being placed in a football mad city.
“Manchester is home to not only one of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester United, but also to the English Premier League Champions after City’s stunning victory,” he said. “And that means there is an almost insatiable appetite for football in the city.
“These players know they will never be able to play with the Rooney’s and Aguero’s, but perhaps by playing minifootball they can sample their own footballing glory. This is what we are delighted to provide for people. “
UKMA – who already have around 20 affiliated leagues in the Manchester area – confirm that they intend to start yet more leagues in the city itself in 2013.
