Just six weeks are left and the season in Germany is on the finish line: Absolutely thrilling.
But let’s start from the beginning. This is the first article from the German Minifootball Association. So it’s time for a little introduction of our work.
In 2005 we launched a new project called Uni-Liga in a small town in the heart of Germany called Goettingen. The idea was simple: Play football and have fun. We started with a minimum of expectations and got a maximum feedback. More than forty teams registered for the first tournament.
Year by year passed, many cities followed our example and our network got bigger and bigger. Today twenty leagues all over the country with over 500 teams and more than 10.000 players participate every week.
The main principle is to play without the many rules of club football, just six-a-side with your friends. This casual concept makes many attractive side events possible. The teams create their humorous names, have mascots and fans to cheer for the players at the sideline. Of course it is a fun-league, but that doesn’t take the thrill out of the games.
On July 7th we will host the national championship in Goettingen, where all the league winners qualify for in a mode pretty close to UEFA Champions League. All the players are highly motivated to compete with teams from other leagues and try to reach their place in the championship. In one point all football players – regardless if it is Bundesliga or Uni-Liga – are equal: They all want to win!
