Minifootball continues its huge expansion in the UK and later this month around 200 new players will be signed up to a new league on a small Island off the EnglishCoast.
Association Soccer has never before run affiliated leagues that weren’t in mainland Britain but that all changes later in June with the formation of a new 20 team competition on the Isle of Wight.
The tiny island, situated off the south coast, near Portsmouth, does not have any real football heritage, with only a couple of players playing professional football in the English Premier and Football Leagues, but that hasn’t stopped players of all ages taking up the chance to play in the first ever organized mini football league.
The Monday evening league takes place on one of the Island’s main town’s, Newport, and was granted affiliated status by the Association Soccer Accreditation Committee after a series of stringent checks.
The league will kick off on 29th June.
