As part of our commitment to making small sided soccer ever more inclusive and available to all members of the society in Ireland, the Irish Minifootball is excited to reveal our plans to get children playing the sport.

The vast majority of small sided soccer leagues in the country are for adults or youths, but now plans are underway to recruit up to 10,000 children to play in leagues.

Irish Minifootball Association President Declan Ford has a background in youth coaching and the idea is one that is close to his heart – as he explained: “I believe very passionately that we have a duty to help children become more active and part of that is giving them many more chances to play sport.

“Sport can teach children so much and it is absolutely vital that they are given the chance to lead an active lifestyle.

Part of the Irish Minifootball plan is to give chances for youngsters to play after school and get them to stop using their computers or watching television so much, with Declan adding: “We all know we have a problem with obesity in this country and we believe this will be a good way to help alleviate that.”

More news on the scheme in due course.
