For the first time in Armenia Mini football “Armenia Cup championship -2013” was held. Mini football, as we have already mentioned in our previous articles, is almost a new sport in Armenia

This means  there were no proper mini football stadiums. All in all there were one or two stadiums, and they were rather expensive for renting.

Second, mini football was not much popular and accepted sport among youth, therefore it seemed hard and even impossible to form teams and to start a tournament.

Third, there were no professional mini football referees, which made the holding of the championship rather hard.

However after much hard work the Armenian Championship started the Championship on 21st of April and finished on June 8th. Nineteen teams applied for the championship. The majority of the teams, being informed about such undertaking of mini football federation, were newly formed. There were also teams that had operated prior to the announcement, but had never had an experience of taking part in a mini football championship.

According to the MFF evaluations, the majority of the teams had rather effective performance during the championship, although there were two or three quite weak teams as well, that hadn’t managed to form properly. The surprising thing was not that the Federation was able to involve so many teams in the championship, but that the teams performed in such highly disciplined and skilled games. Considering the fact, that such a championship was being held for the first time in Armenia, the Federation had decided that it should be open, and that new teams might join to form new groups. And that how it was.  In the beginning of the championship we had four groups with sixteen participant teams. But during the championship one more group was added, having five groups as a result.

The best 8 teams entered the quarter finals and then four teams, the Souonsi, the Skillful, the 5-Massive and the FooTmed, played  in the semi-final. The FooTmed and T-he Skillful entered the final due to their best games. The two teams performed an excellent and accurate game. The first half passed with an equal struggle. Two minutes prior to the finish of the second half the Skillful scored its winning goal, to become the inaugural champion.

We are grateful to all the teams and their captains and The World and Europe Federations and their presidents for their professional and moral support. And we urge the teams to prepare for the coming championships in Armenia, as well as for international matches.
