The coach of the Greek National Team, Apostolis Gkaifilias spoke about the beginning of the preparation period of the team which will lead to miniEURO 2014 in November.
Greece is going to start a process of selection camp in Athens where more than thirty players from all over the country will be invited to participate. Twelve of them will be finally chosen for the next big dream and Apostolis Gkaifilias spoke about the new exciting adventure. The miniEURO 2013 in Rethymno was very successful and the Greek Team showed the great potential that it has.
“We are currently planning the ways in which we build the new team and we are choosing players from all over Greece in order to invite them to the camp,” he said. “The Final-16 of N’JOY UNI-League will be held in May 30th – June 1st and of course we are looking forward to check the condition in which all players are and also check if we find some more talents that we are probably missing.
“This year the final roster will be smaller than previous, because we want to work with fewer players and build a very strong team where all players will have certain roles in it. 12 players will be the final number. We are aiming to keep some important players from last year and actually to build a team which will not be changing more than 50% every year. We will check all possibilities and I hope that we will find the best solutions for all the above mentioned roles.”
The coach was asked about the experience of miniEURO 2013 and how precious it is.
“The benefits from our previous experience are numerous and precious. Firstly we realized which are our real possibilities. Secondly, we studied the other teams and the way that they play. We have videos from all the National teams which will help us and we are not expecting them to change a lot. We want to go further than in 2013 and represent our country in the best possible way, ” Apostolis confirmed.
“Also, miniEURO 2013 created a great desire for the players in order to take part in this dream. All Greek players want to wear the blue and whites and I am sure that the success of miniEURO created the same emotion to the players of all the other countries too. I am sure that everybody wants to improve the perforomance in comparison to 2013 and it will not be very easy.”
